Work Boots Buyers Guide

Today’s work boot truly is a modern marvel. Goodbye boring old one-size-fits-all work boot. Welcome to the era of possibilities!

Caterpillar Work Boots

As a kid growing up with a father in the construction business, I’ve worn out more than my fair share of work boots over the years. Nearly every summer for as long as I can remember, instead of sleeping til noon and waking up to lay in the pool all day, I was up at dawn lacing up my boots and getting ready to head out the door.

I remember them like it was yesterday, my  Caterpillar work boots with a black top and rubber bottom. When one pair wore out, I simply picked up another of the same pair at the store the next day like nothing had ever happened. They weren’t by any stretch of the imagination anything fancy, but they were definitely dependable. And in my mind, they were the only work boots worth slipping my feet into every morning.

Little did I know back then about the entire world of possibilities and options available when selecting my next pair of work boots. There is literally a pair of work boots for nearly every  job that you could ever hope to do.

  • Steel Toe Work Boots These boots offer reinforced tips in the toe of the boot and are recommended for anyone doing heavy lifting our working with heavy objects and large machinery
  • Waterproof Work BootsMany waterproof boots use GORE-TEX® technology in more heavy-duty work boots, rather than just treating the leather. Gore-Tex® gives you the ultimate in comfort and protection. With over 9 billion pores per square inch that prevent water from getting to your feet while allowing sweat vapor to pass right through, Gore-Tex® keeps your feet dry and comfortable in all conditions.
  • Slip and Oil Resistant Work Boots These boots have special soles that provide traction on wet or oily floors. According to the U.S. Department of Labor, fifteen percent of incidental workplace deaths are caused by slips, trips and falls, while an estimated 300,000 American workers are injured each year on the job due to poor traction. Don’t risk injury or worse, find a comfortable safe pair of work boots for your work situation!

Of course, there are many more varieties of work boots available on the market, but these are by far the most popular and sought after types. So don’t be like me, open your eyes to the world of endless possibilities the next time you select your next pair of work boots!

  1. I bought a pair of Muck boots about two years ago and they are still in great shape. I wear them to work almost daily. I’ll never throw them out.

  2. Angela,

It really is truly incredible how long lasting some products are. Some boots last for no more than a few months, while others last for years. It’s all in being a smart consumer. Great job!
